Features of a table saw

Table saw is the most common and widely used saw in many woodwork shops due to its convenience, accuracy and capacity to handle any type of work. These features of a table saw is what gives it the great significance. Some of these features include; motor horse power, trunnion, table flatness and size, amor size and bearings and blade tilt among many more.

MOTOR HORSEPOWER

Motor horsepower basically refers to the energy required to run the table saw and bears a direct relationship with the blade size. The larger the blade the bigger the horse power, required to cut through a piece of wood. It is never harmful to have excess horse power in your blade as a little horse power can cause the saw to bind, slow down and even stop in the middle of a cut. The smallest motor is considered to have a capacity of 3 horse power while the largest is consider to have a capacity of 7.5 horse power.

THE TRUNNION

The trunnion refers to the mechanism inside the cabinet that is responsible for raising and lowering the blades as well as tilting the bevel cuts. It is controlled from the outside by two separate wheels or cranks; one for raising and the other for lowering the table. The other is for tilting the blade and is actually located on the inside. The trunnion basically determines the accuracy of the cuts and this help to ensure that it is accurately machined.

TABLE FLATNESS AND SIZE

The theory behind any table top flatness is the metal is required to settle in a place whether is no post-casting movement and the ground should be flat. The size of the cast is very important as it should be large. Sawing large objects requires the surface to be very flat in order to fit the accuracy of the blade.
